In recent days, during a press briefing, Rayon Sports President Twagirayezu Thadee announced an exciting clash against Tanzanian champions Yanga SC. The match will take place as part of "Igikundiro Day," a special event dedicated to the popular Rwandan football club.
While the date was initially unconfirmed, Ally Kamwe, the spokesperson for Yanga SC—the reigning Tanzanian league winners—has now officially stated that the match is scheduled for August 15. According to Kamwe, this game isn't just friendly; it's pivotal for evaluating and preparing the Yanga SC squad as they gear up under their new coach.
Kamwe revealed, “On August 15, Yanga will play a match in Rwanda. This means our activities on signing new players and releasing some will occur from July 20 to August 3. Following two weeks with our new coach, we’re focused on self-assessment. The match against Rayon Sports is our opportunity to measure progress.”
Highlighting the significance of the friendly, Kamwe underscored Rwanda as a critical venue for team evaluation. He elaborated, “Traveling to Rwanda is not just another trip; it’s always about performance reviews. On August 15, Yanga SC will showcase its refreshed lineup. People should expect great things as Yanga Africans come together for this prestigious match on Rayon Sports Day 2025.”
This isn't Yanga SC's first visit to Rwanda; their previous trip involved a clash with Al-Merrikh SC from Sudan during the CAF Champions League second qualifying round.
