During an emotional Instagram live on Tuesday night, June 25, 2025, Rwandan artist Yago revealed the painful details about his separation from his wife, Teta. Speaking candidly, he clarified that the breakup was genuine and not tied to promoting his new album, “Yago Life II.”
“This woman I loved, we are no longer together,” Yago began. “I believe it’s official now, and I’m the one saying it. She is with her family, and I thank God for that because she is doing well, and so is our child.”
Yago expressed shock at how things unfolded, revealing his wife left while he was working. “She said goodbye when I wasn’t at home. I had gone to work, and she sent me a message telling me she was leaving. I never kicked her out or physically harmed her,” he explained.
Speculating about the reasons behind this sudden breakup, Yago suspected postpartum depression might have played a role. He admitted the timing exacerbated the pain, as he had hoped to celebrate fatherhood instead of experiencing heartbreak.
“Having someone take away a three-week-old baby while you’ve just returned from the hospital? It’s like a dagger in the heart. But one has to stay strong,” Yago confessed.
Speaking openly about his emotional struggles, Yago emphasized that he would not beg for reconciliation. “I truly love her. No mistake I make in love can erase my genuine feelings. There’s no love without respect,” he said.
The artist, who transitioned from journalism to music, described his pain as surreal, initially mistaking it for a bad dream before accepting the harsh reality. “The way it felt like a knife to the heart—someone takes a three-week-old baby from you while you’re still recovering? It’s hard to believe,” he recounted.
Yago stressed the depth of his love for Teta and reflected on the respect deserved by someone who bears your child. “I loved her so much that I can’t imagine loving another woman the same way. Someone who bears your child deserves respect,” he stated.
Determined to clarify misunderstandings, Yago emphasized his transparency throughout the relationship. The revelations were aimed at explaining his circumstances—not at promoting his album.
Despite negativity from some people rejoicing over his family struggles, Yago remains resilient. “Laugh if you want; I’ve left all that to the comedians. But don’t pity me—God alone will pave the way for me,” he asserted.
Yago also addressed circulating rumors about his child’s paternity. Firmly denying them, he said, “No! Life is mine (referring to his child), and he will live well. His mother will also live well because I am a hardworking man—I’m not someone who begs. My son will be okay.”
Instead of succumbing to despair, Yago is focusing on his career and personal growth. He announced plans to release a 16-track album and clarified that the heartfelt revelations were independent of this project.
“In love, I fought hard, but it didn’t work. I will never harm myself because of a love that didn’t succeed. Instead, I encourage those facing family struggles to stay strong,” Yago advised.
