We Must Eliminate APR or Kiyovu – KNC on Gasogi United’s Peace Cup Ambitions

The President of Gasogi United, Kakooza Nkuliza Charles (KNC), has once again reminded other teams that his club is determined to win the 2026 Peace Cup after eliminating Musanze FC in the Round of 16. He also sent a strong message to APR FC and Kiyovu SC, whom they could face in the quarterfinals.

Gasogi United became the first team to qualify for the 2026 Peace Cup quarterfinals after knocking out Musanze FC with a 3-2 aggregate score. In the second leg played on Tuesday at Kigali Pele Stadium, Gasogi United secured a 2-1 victory. The first leg, held at Stade Ubworoherane, had ended in a 1-1 draw.

Midfielder Ngono Guy Herve scored twice for Gasogi United, while young striker Hakizimana Tity netted Musanze FC’s consolation goal in the return leg.

Speaking after the match, KNC acknowledged that it was a tough contest but expressed confidence in facing whichever team advances to the quarterfinals.

“It was a good but difficult match. We started well and managed to score two goals in the first half. APR FC has a strong chance of eliminating Kiyovu, which means we may face them in the quarterfinals".

It will be the third time we meet at this stage—we have eliminated them once, and they have eliminated us once. They should come prepared, knowing we will compete strongly, and they must also be ready to be knocked out,” KNC said.

He reiterated that Gasogi United’s objective is to win the Peace Cup and insisted that he believes it is achievable based on the strength of his squad and the competition’s format.

“Many people see it as a dream, but our goal is to win the Peace Cup. Looking at the structure of the tournament, it is a knockout competition. If you have a strong team and committed players, you can eliminate any opponent—and that is possible for us,” he added.

In the Peace Cup quarterfinals, Gasogi United will face the winner between APR FC and Kiyovu SC. In the first leg of their tie, APR FC defeated Kiyovu SC 2-0.
