The appointment was approved on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, during a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Kagame. Uwera Jean Maurice replaces Alain Mukuralinda who passed away in early 2025.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Uwera thanked the President for the confidence shown in him and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country and prioritizing citizens.
“I sincerely thank His Excellency President Paul Kagame for the trust he has placed in me by appointing me as Deputy Government Spokesperson. I commit to contributing to initiatives that advance the welfare of Rwandans and place citizens at the center of governance,” he wrote.
Jean Maurice Uwera is a seasoned media executive with over 14 years of experience in journalism, particularly in radio broadcasting and mass communication.
He possesses in-depth knowledge of Rwanda’s media landscape, public information needs, and collaboration between the media and government institutions.
Since February 2025, he has served as Executive Director of 93.9 SK FM, where he has been responsible for shaping the station’s strategic direction and editorial policies, with a focus on business reporting and public interest content.
Previously, Uwera worked at the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) from 2016, holding various roles including Senior Television Presenter on RTV and Station Manager of Magic FM.
He began his journalism career in 2011 as a Production Manager at Flash FM & TV, after transitioning from the hospitality industry. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communication from the Catholic Institute of Kabgayi.
