MTN Rwanda is inviting customers with modern smartphones to upgrade their SIM cards from 3G to 4G for free—an initiative aimed at providing faster internet and improved services.
In an exclusive interview with InyaRwanda, Norman Munyampundu, the Chief Customer Operations Officer at MTN Rwanda, emphasized the importance of embracing technological advancements to ensure better connectivity.
He shared, "Our mission is to transition all our customers to 4G technology. Globally, technology moves quickly—from 2G to 3G, now 4G, and even 5G is emerging. Rwanda should not lag; we aim to lead with progress and provide modern solutions for internet users. With 4G, browsing platforms like YouTube and WhatsApp becomes significantly faster."
Munyampundu said, "This is why we’re encouraging our customers to switch from 3G to 4G to enjoy enhanced internet speeds and reliability."
For customers without modern 4G-compatible smartphones, MTN Rwanda offers support in accessing affordable devices to bridge the digital gap and keep pace with advancing technology.
The benefits are clear: Free 4G SIM cards and a one-time bonus of 15GB data valid for 7 days for anyone who transitions to 4G. Munyampundu added that customer enthusiasm is growing, with many visiting MTN branches after learning of these perks.
He remarked, "Our branches are witnessing a significant number of clients upgrading their SIM cards to 4G. Many are sharing positive experiences, which is driving a wave of participation nationwide."
Munyampundu also clarified that customers with e-SIM-enabled devices can skip the physical SIM card swap. He revealed MTN’s plans to help most of its customers move to 4G within the next two months while urging smartphone owners to visit MTN Service Centers, Connect Shops, or Express Shops for assistance.
Currently, more than one million MTN Rwanda customers have successfully switched to 4G, while over 30,000 have adopted e-SIM technology.
