Uwineza Florence officially launched Amor Foundation on July 27, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana, USA. This bold initiative fulfills a lifelong dream she envisioned since her childhood, marked by the absence of family support and stability.
Having survived the genocide in Mubuga, Karongi District, Florence was orphaned at just four years old. Her journey through five different families, and the hardships she experienced, gave her deep insight into the plight of orphans and individuals lacking love and support.
Speaking to InyaRwanda, Florence emphasized, “I promised myself that I never wanted to see another child grow up the way I did. That’s why I decided that when I grew up, I would do something to help other orphans.”
Amor Foundation began its impactful operations in February 2025 in the U.S. and has expanded its reach to Gasabo District, Rwanda. Currently, the foundation supports 30 children, some of whom have been successfully reunited with their families.
With a focus on nurturing hope and dreams, the foundation offers programs like dance lessons, martial arts classes (Karate), and poetry recitation. These activities empower children to discover their talents and express themselves creatively.
Florence first conceptualized the idea for Amor Foundation while studying at the University of Kigali. Conversations with fellow orphaned girls about their challenges and aspirations inspired her to create solutions for empowering vulnerable youth.
She shared, “Back then, I didn’t have any money, but I had determination. I knew I had experience, pain, and love. These three were enough for me to build a purpose to help others.”
Looking ahead, Uwineza Florence aims to elevate Amor Foundation to an international level, driven by its mission and her compassion. She revealed, “Whenever I witness wars across the world and see children who’ve lost their parents, I feel deeply hurt. Amor Foundation is my contribution to the world.”
Starting in September 2025, the foundation plans to collaborate with the Rwandan government to support underprivileged families and integrate street children into supportive environments or equip them to rebuild their lives.
Leonard Kwitonda, President of the Rwandan Diaspora in America, commended Florence’s efforts, stating, “We commend the efforts of Amor Foundation in helping build our nation and transforming the lives of children.”
Florence passionately believes love is the cornerstone of everything. She explained, “I named my foundation Amor Foundation because I want love to be the guiding principle. When love exists, the world becomes a better place.”
In her heartfelt message to the youth, Florence encouraged them to avoid negative behaviors and retain hope for a brighter tomorrow while working on personal growth. She said, “They must not indulge in reckless behavior, suicide, or drug abuse. Their tomorrow is possible.”
