Transfer Talk: APR FC Appoints New Coach, Police FC Reshuffles, Rayon Sports Stays Calm

APR FC appoints a seasoned coach while Rwandan teams intensify efforts for CAF tournaments. Police FC renews contracts, while Rayon Sports makes limited moves.

APR FC capped off an exceptional season by clinching the league title, Peace Cup, and Heroes Cup, securing its place in the prestigious CAF Champions League. On the other hand, Rayon Sports learned valuable lessons in rebuilding as it prepares for participation in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Both APR FC and Rayon Sports are now actively seeking talented players to strengthen their squads and boost their chances in the upcoming African tournaments.

On Tuesday, APR FC announced the hiring of their new head coach, Abderrahim Talib, a seasoned tactician with over 16 years of experience. Talib replaces Darko Novic, who left the club after the 2024/2025 season by mutual agreement. The 61-year-old has coached 13 teams, including RS Berkane, AS FAR, and Wydad Casablanca, earning a reputation as a football veteran.

Speaking on player transfers, APR FC President Brig Gen Deo Rusanganwa highlighted the club's aim to sign two more foreign players—a striker and an attacking midfielder capable of playing as a number 10. These additions will complement Ugandan star Ronald Ssekiganda, who joined the team earlier this year.

Rumors are swirling around defender Omborenga Fitina, who is reportedly set to return to APR FC after spending a season at Rayon Sports. Inyarwanda sources confirm that he has already undergone medical checks with APR FC.

Omborenga initially joined Rayon Sports in July 2024 on a two-year contract but requested to leave the club in May following disagreements with management. Should he join APR FC, Omborenga will be the sixth new player for the team, alongside Adolphe Hakizimana, Hakim Bugingo, Hadji Iraguha, Pacifique Ngabonziza, and Ronald Ssekiganda.

Police FC also made headlines by extending contracts for key players, as announced on its social media platforms. Renewed deals for Mugisha Didier, Samuel Ndizeye, and captain Nsabimana Eric Zidane eliminate speculation surrounding Didier, who had been a target for Rayon Sports, leaving fans of Murera disappointed.

While APR FC and Police FC move proactively, Rayon Sports has been relatively quiet during this transfer window. Aside from securing Burundian defender Musore Prince, the club has struggled to finalize additional signings, with many rumored transfers falling apart or players opting for other teams.

The New Times reported that Police FC is pursuing Jean Bosco Akayezu, a right-back who recently split from AS Kigali. Akayezu has reportedly reached a deal with Rayon Sports, paying five million Rwandan Francs to facilitate his exit from AS Kigali.
