As the player transfer market heats up, Tanzania’s football powerhouse Azam FC is pulling out all the stops to revamp its squad in a bid to dominate domestic competitions and excel in continental tournaments.
Among the standout targets, Azam FC has expressed a strong interest in two players from Rwanda's APR FC: Claude Niyomugabo and Jean Bosco Ruboneka, as well as seasoned Rwandan international midfielder Djabel Manishimwe. Their addition could be pivotal for the club’s success in the upcoming seasons.
Claude Niyomugabo, the captain of APR FC, has emerged as a top priority for Azam FC due to his commanding performances during the 2024/25 CAF Champions League’s early rounds. His crucial role in eliminating Azam FC from the preliminary stage has left a lasting impression, making him a key defensive asset for the Tanzanian side.
Jean Bosco Ruboneka, APR FC’s midfield maestro, also ranks high on Azam's wishlist. The club sees him as a viable replacement for Feisal Salum, a player currently courted by big names like Kaizer Chiefs, Simba SC, and Yanga SC.
If Feisal Salum exits, Ruboneka is tipped to bring his expertise as a seasoned African-level midfielder. According to reports by Time Sports, Azam FC might need to shell out approximately $150,000 (215 million Rwandan Francs) to secure his services.
Djabel Manishimwe, an attacking midfielder celebrated for his creativity and goal-scoring touch, has also captured Azam FC’s interest. His potential signing, however, hinges on whether the club successfully negotiates deals for Ruboneka or manages to retain Salum.
Despite Azam FC’s determined efforts to sign these Rwandan stars, APR FC has shown resistance. The Rwandan champions are deeply focused on carving history by advancing to the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time. With such ambitions in mind, APR FC is likely to demand significant transfer fees or retain its top players should adequate replacements be unavailable.
