The U-20 championship for boys and girls concluded yesterday, marking an exciting chapter in Rwandan youth football. In the girls' division, Police WFC U-20 claimed the title by defeating Nyagatare U-20 with a solid 2-0 victory. Meanwhile, Marine FC U-20 emerged victorious in the boys' category, securing the championship in a tense penalty shootout (5-4) against Gasogi United U-20, following a 1-1 draw in regular time.

After the thrilling matches, FERWAFA President Munyantwali Alphonse expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the tournament and its growing impact. He noted, "This tournament is operating at a commendable level. Players from previous editions are already advancing to senior teams, reaffirming the presence of exceptional talent. Congratulations go to all teams, their leaders, and, most notably, the champions of this year’s tournament."

Looking ahead, Munyantwali Alphonse unveiled plans to introduce a youth tournament for under-15 players. He explained, "In the first year, we started with the U-20 tournament, followed by U-19. He shared, "The last two years have seen a notable expansion of tournaments, particularly for youth. We’ve also seen a surge in football opportunities that are paving the way for players at all levels."

"Our efforts have included extensive training programs for coaches across categories, referee development, and tangible improvements in football infrastructure. These initiatives represent robust progress, ensuring not only players' growth but also a strong support system for the sport. Key milestones have been achieved, and there’s promise for even greater advancement."

When asked whether he plans to seek another term as FERWAFA President, Munyantwali said that any updates on his leadership aspirations would be revealed in the coming days.
