Sherrie Silver told InyaRwanda that she will soon unveil the date and location for the highly anticipated return of The Silver Gala. The Huye-born philanthropist explained that this year’s edition will feature a fresh approach and be “different from the past events,” promising an unforgettable experience.
Previously, the inaugural Silver Gala took place at the iconic Kigali Convention Center. The event showcased dazzling performances from celebrated artists like The Ben, Kevin Kade, Element, Alyn Sano, and others, spotlighting rich artistic talent.
Notable attendees of the first Silver Gala included leaders and creatives who advance impactful initiatives. Among them were Masai Ujiri, the founder of Giants of Africa; Fred Swaniker, CEO and founder of African Leadership University; Miss Jolly Mutesi, Miss Muheto Divine, Bwiza, Miss Nishimwe Naomie, Intore Massamba, Ish Kevin, and Runtown. Their presence underscored the importance of blending creativity and philanthropy.
Other distinguished guests included artists like Andy Bumuntu, Clemence Umukundwa (Cadette), Sandrine Mucyo—founder of “The Ssanduina Ltd,” Sharifa Umuhoza, and Musana Teta Hense, known for her participation in Miss Rwanda.
The Silver Gala is a project of the Sherrie Silver Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting vulnerable children. At the September 7, 2024, edition of the gala, Sherrie Silver showcased the talents of young participants who learned diverse dance forms and skills under her mentorship. Ticket prices for the event ranged from 120,000 RWF to 1,000,000 RWF, with proceeds directed toward youth-focused initiatives.
Sherrie Silver stated that her involvement with the prestigious MET Gala was a major inspiration behind her vision for holding transformative events in Rwanda and Africa. She aims to promote talent, culture, and generosity through The Silver Gala.
“Collaborating with celebrities at the MET Gala made me realize the potential for Africa to host its own elegant event that blends culture, creativity, and philanthropy. That inspired me to create The Silver Gala as a unique platform for supporting youth empowerment initiatives,” Sherrie shared.
Planned as an annual celebration, The Silver Gala will bring together philanthropists, celebrities, leaders, models, and contributors to national and global development.
Funds generated through ticket sales and sponsorships will be allocated to the activities of the Sherrie Silver Foundation, which focuses on developing youth through education, artistic endeavors, and talent nurturing.
Sherrie Silver emphasized that African culture deserves appreciation on a global scale, and love-driven initiatives have the power to change lives for the better.
The MET Gala, officially known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, was Sherrie’s direct inspiration for organizing The Silver Gala. MET Gala, held annually in New York, is renowned for bringing together top celebrities from fashion, entertainment, cinema, and music to support monumental causes.
Organized by Vogue Magazine in partnership with the MET Museum, the MET Gala is celebrated for its extravagant themes, unmatched artistry, and millions raised to aid the fashion institute every year.
The 2025 edition of the MET Gala took place on May 5, showcasing the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The event highlighted the influential role of Black culture—particularly men’s contributions—in world fashion.
Attendees were encouraged to embrace the theme “Tailored For You,” emphasizing bespoke tailoring inspired by Black heritage.
The event was led by prominent figures Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Basketball legend LeBron James served as honorary co-chair, adding extra prestige.
Among the star-studded attendees were Rihanna (pregnant with her third child, adorned in a Marc Jacobs creation), Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Stormzy, Madonna, and others who contributed to the event’s unmatched glamour.
Live performances by icons Usher and Stevie Wonder made the MET Gala an unforgettable night, raising a record-breaking $31 million to support fashion and cultural initiatives.
