Shalom Choir has unveiled their new, soul-stirring song titled “Sinzakambakamba” after the tremendous success of their worship concert, “Shalom Worship Experience.” In a heartfelt conversation with InyaRwanda, Shalom Choir’s president, Jean Luc Rukundo, shared that the purpose of this song is to motivate believers to repent and reconnect with God rather than succumb to sin.
He remarked, “Through the blood of Jesus, we overcome sin. When someone stumbles, they shouldn’t remain down but should hurry to confess to the Savior, who will forgive them.” This powerful song celebrates God's unending mercy and forgiveness.
Delivering a Message of Hope and Redemption
The song “Sinzakambakamba” delivers a message deeply rooted in hope, especially for Christians experiencing challenges. It encourages everyone to trust in God’s constant grace available to all who repent. Shalom Choir passionately emphasizes that Jesus is the ultimate rescuer from sin, reminding believers not to dwell on guilt but to find solace and strength in the cross.
Shalom Worship Experience: Connecting Souls to God
The “Shalom Worship Experience” was hosted from March 22–23, 2025, and left an unforgettable spiritual impact on attendees. Aimed at offering genuine moments of worship and reflection, the event fostered a stronger connection between worshippers and their Creator. Jean Luc reflected, “The outcome was fulfilling; people truly worshipped, reconnected with God, and appreciated the experience, urging us to organize another event soon.”
With carefully crafted performances, moving messages, and remarkable attendance, the concert touched many lives. Shalom Choir continues to be a beacon of faith, spreading the gospel through dedication, musical skill, and spiritual devotion. The success of both the song “Sinzakambakamba” and the “Shalom Worship Experience” reaffirms the choir’s unyielding mission to bring people closer to God.
A Testament of Resilience and Faith: Shalom Choir’s Journey
Shalom Choir is rooted in the ADEPR church of Nyarugenge, with a foundation anchored in Psalm 59:17: "But I will sing of your strength; in the morning I will sing of your love, for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble." Established in 1986, the choir began as a children’s group when ADEPR had just one prominent choir—Hoziyana.
Back then, the members were aged between 15 and 17 years. Over time, Shalom Choir evolved into a youth-oriented group and ultimately became the celebrated ensemble we know today. A sister choir, now called Baraka, also emerged from ADEPR during this era.
In 1990, Shalom Choir was officially acknowledged, transitioning from their initial name, “Korali Umunezero” (Joy Choir). Despite producing a first album before the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the group opted not to release it, as they sought a higher level of artistic and spiritual excellence. This perfectionism strengthened their resolve to keep developing their talent.
Overcoming Trials and Focusing on Faith
Like many in Rwanda, Shalom Choir faced immeasurable pain during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Some members lost their lives. Despite these heart-wrenching setbacks, the choir remained steadfast, using faith as their cornerstone to rebuild and continue their mission. They refused to let grief overshadow their calling to serve God, trusting in His guiding hand toward the future.
This unwavering dedication led to the creation of numerous gospel songs over the years, including beloved tracks like “Nzirata Umusaraba,” “Nyabihanga,” “Abami n’Abategetsi,” “Uravuga bikaba,” and “Ijambo Rirarema.”
Milestones of Impact: Performing in Rwanda’s Prestigious Venues
Shalom Choir holds the distinction of being the only ADEPR-affiliated choir to perform in iconic spaces like the Kigali Convention Center and BK Arena. These events not only moved attendees emotionally but also transformed lives, inspiring spiritual renewals and convictions.
Beyond their music, Shalom Choir takes pride in giving back through acts of kindness. Their charitable initiatives extend to helping the underprivileged through material and spiritual support, embodying their mission to uplift communities. Despite trials and challenges, their unwavering faith and determination have allowed them to foster hope and peace for thousands.
