Music is a universal source of joy, cherished by audiences of all ages, especially the youth. Experts affirm that music enriches life beyond mere sustenance. In Rwanda, music fans are known for celebrating concerts with unmatched enthusiasm and energy.

September 2025 is set to be an extraordinary month for Rwanda, featuring cultural highlights and entertainment milestones. From the much-anticipated Gorilla Naming Ceremony to global cycling events, celebrity weddings, and star-studded performances, there's something for everyone.

1. Gorilla Naming Ceremony (Kwita Izina)

Gorilla Naming Ceremony Event in Rwanda

The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has confirmed that Kwita Izina will take place on September 5, 2025, at Kinigi near Volcanoes National Park. This iconic event celebrates gorilla conservation by naming 40 baby gorillas, including 18 born in 2024, marking the 20th edition of the ceremony.

Last year’s event was postponed due to the Marburg outbreak, shifting this milestone celebration to 2025.

Irène Murerwa, RDB’s Head of Tourism, stated: “Celebrating the 20th Kwita Izina is a testament to Rwanda's commitment to conservation and community involvement. We are grateful to the Government, our partners, and citizens for their unwavering support.”

The gorilla population in the Virunga region has expanded from 880 in 2012 to over 1063 today—a resounding success for conservation fueled by local and international partnerships.

Complementary events, including a golf tournament and exclusive receptions, will add to the festive spirit.

A vibrant lineup of world-class cyclists will traverse the streets of Kigali, showcasing sportsmanship at its peak.

Precautions have been taken to ensure the championships run smoothly: schools will be closed, some government employees will work remotely, and traffic plans will be communicated in advance to minimize disruptions.

Fan zones across Kigali will provide residents and visitors with prime viewing spaces as Rwanda celebrates its historic leap in cycling sports.
