During his performance at MASA 2026, Vex Prince delivered a powerful and emotional moment by honoring legendary Rwandan musician Cécile Kayirebwa where he performed her timeless classic “Iwacu,” a gesture that stood out as one of the highlights of the show and deeply moved many African music lovers in attendance.
Vex Prince also embraced his cultural roots by appearing on stage dressed in traditional Rwandan imikenyero, proudly showcasing Rwanda’s heritage on an international platform.
The Rwandan star was among a select group of artists chosen to perform at MASA 2026, based on strict criteria including artistic quality, professionalism, and potential for international growth.
Vex Prince delivered two major performances during the festival. The first took place at YELAM’S on April 16, 2026, drawing an impressive audience, while the second was held on April 17, 2026, at the Palais de la Culture – Salle Lougah François, a venue with a capacity of over 1,500 people.
MASA Africa is one of the continent’s leading cultural markets and festivals, bringing together artists from various disciplines—music, dance, and theater—with the aim of promoting African culture and connecting creatives to global opportunities.
Being selected for MASA marks a significant milestone for Vex Prince and for Rwandan music as a whole. According to the organizers, he was chosen for his artistic excellence, professionalism, and clear vision for his musical career.
This opportunity positions him not only as a representative of Rwanda but also as a rising voice in the future of African music, at a time when Rwandan sound continues to gain international recognition.
His participation in MASA came shortly after the release of his latest single “Wahala,” a collaboration with Cole M.G.N, an American producer and artist known for his remarkable contributions to global music, including multiple Grammy Awards.
Since launching his music career in 2022, Vex Prince has steadily built a strong fan base through songs like “Wahala,” “Bad Energy,” and “Holy Water.” His collaborations such as “Money” with Dorty from Côte d’Ivoire and “Laler” with Fior2Bior have further expanded his reach across West Africa.
In June 2025, he released his debut album “Levitation,” featuring 12 tracks including Wahala, Laler, Bad Energy, Holy Water, and others. He is currently working on his second album, already teased by the single “Falling,” produced by Element Eléeeh.
Despite being relatively new in the industry, Vex Prince is making remarkable strides. He was recently signed to KOKO Productions, an international label dedicated to promoting African and American talent.
This was not his first international appearance. In 2025, he also performed at the Mother Africa Festival in Abidjan, sharing the stage with major artists including Asake and Maitre Gims, where he received an enthusiastic reception from fans.
