Rwanda’s Football Giants APR FC and Rayon Sports Revamp Squads Ahead of CAF Tournaments
As APR FC dominated the football season by clinching the league title, the Peace Cup, and the Heroes Cup, they earned the honor of representing Rwanda in the prestigious CAF Champions League. On the other hand, Rayon Sports faced challenges, learning lessons in rebuilding as they gear up for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Both clubs are now aggressively scouting talented players to bolster their squads for optimal performance in African competitions.
Reliable sources close to APR FC, based in Shyorongi, Rulindo District, have revealed the team’s interest in Mauritanian defender Ibrahim Keita. Although local media has yet to confirm the news, reports from Tanzanian outlets suggest that Keita is also being pursued by Young Africans SC.
If APR FC officially signs Ibrahim Keita, this could signal the possible departure of key players vital to the club’s success, including Jean Gilbert Byiringiro, widely known as Kagege, and Ndayishimiye Dieudonne, popularly called Nzotanga.
Meanwhile, Rayon Sports is taking proactive steps, reportedly dispatching representatives to Uganda to scout defenders from BDCO Bul FC. Among the top candidates being considered are Walter Ochola, Hirally Onek, Benon Tahomera, Emmaniel Obua, and Richald Ayiko.
In another development, Joseph Sackey, a Ghanaian player and former captain of Muhazi United, who recently faced relegation, is drawing interest from Rwandan clubs and international teams. Agent Joseph Sackey Edmund Okay and Sackey himself have confirmed this information.
Rwandan clubs showing interest in Sackey include Police FC, Rayon Sports, Mukura VS, and Musanze FC.
On a more emotional note, Khadime Ndiaye, a Senegalese goalkeeper who recently ended his relationship with Rayon Sports, has bid farewell to the club’s fans via his Instagram account (@bambiste12). Ndiaye expressed deep disappointment, revealing that he lost his starting position due to accusations of match-fixing and deliberately aiding opponents, a controversy that deeply hurt his tenure with the club.
APR FC is reportedly interested in defender Ibrahim Keita, who plays for Mazembe.
