Rwanda's Amavubi climbs three spots in FIFA rankings to 127th globally, prepping for crucial World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe this September.

On Thursday, FIFA unveiled its updated rankings of international football teams, reflecting performances from recent matches, including the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, friendly games, and the CONCACAF Gold Cup Glory tournament, which was clinched by Mexico.

Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, achieved a significant milestone by climbing three places in FIFA’s rankings. The team advanced from 130th to 127th globally, with a total score of 1125.47 points. This improvement follows their last match, a friendly game against Algeria, where they faced a 2-0 defeat. Another match against Algeria's domestic league team was played but not counted by FIFA.

In the global rankings, heavyweights like Argentina, Spain, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia solidify their presence in the top 10. Looking at Africa, Morocco reigns supreme as the continent’s highest-ranked team, with Senegal occupying the second spot, Egypt in third, Algeria in fourth, and Nigeria rounding out the top five.
