Rwanda’s Amavubi Face a 2-0 Defeat to Algeria in Friendly Match

Rwanda’s Amavubi football team suffered a 2-0 loss to Algeria in the second friendly match, as setbacks in midfield led to their downfall.

The match between Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, and Algeria was held on Monday night at 9 PM at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida, showcasing Algeria’s strong control in possession early on. Algeria quickly established dominance by controlling the ball but found it challenging to penetrate Rwanda’s solid defensive setup.

At the 12th minute, Boulbina Adel took a free kick that was a clear scoring opportunity for Algeria. However, Rwanda’s goalkeeper, Ntwari Fiacre, displayed impressive skills by saving the shot and pushing the ball to a corner.

Amavubi struggled to create meaningful chances on goal. Their noteworthy opportunity came from Kwizera Jojea, whose free kick attempt was easily handled by Algeria’s goalkeeper.

In the 25th minute, Baouche Houari launched a powerful strike for Algeria that threatened Rwanda’s defense, but once again, goalkeeper Ntwari Fiacre stepped up and made a crucial save.

Rwanda’s coach, Adel Amrouche, observed Amavubi being outplayed in the midfield and responded by making critical substitutions. He replaced Kayigamba Claude, Noe Uwimana, and Hamon Aly Enzo with Fitina Ombolenga, Muhire Kevin, and Mugisha Gilbert in an attempt to regain control.

Algeria built momentum as the game progressed, and in the 40th minute, a penalty was awarded against Rwanda after a foul by Fitina Ombolenga inside the box. Berkane Redouane took the penalty, but his shot hit the post. Boulbina Adel capitalized on the rebound, securing Algeria's opening goal.

Seeking better gameplay in the second half, Rwanda introduced new players, including Mugisha Bonheur, Gitego Arthur, and goalkeeper Buhake Clement. Unfortunately, the tactical adjustments did not yield improvement in their overall play.

Algeria extended their lead in the 79th minute when Naoufel Khacef struck the second goal, effectively sealing their 2-0 victory. Despite Rwanda’s efforts, they remained unsettled by Algeria’s consistent pressure.

This marked the second consecutive loss for Amavubi against Algeria in a friendly match, both ending with a 2-0 scoreline.

Rwanda’s national team is slated to return to action in September, competing in the qualifying rounds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
