The first episode of the new series titled 'Amahitamo' (Choices) premiered on Monday, May 6, 2025, on the YouTube channel LWIKO MEDIA. Fans of gripping Rwandan cinema can look forward to new episodes three times a week—every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:00 AM.
The series features an outstanding ensemble cast from Rwanda's film industry, including Egide Nibigira, Jean Marie Vianney Hategekimana (known as Shareef or Papa Killaman), Byishimo Emelyne (Milly), Isimbi Sabrine (Isimbi), Iribagiza Vanessa (Baby Nessa), Scott Emile, and many more.
In a conversation with InyaRwanda, Egide revealed that the storyline of 'Amahitamo' focuses on a young man from a wealthy family grappling with the struggles of love. His journey takes an unexpected turn as he becomes entangled with a sex worker while other women vie for his affection, presenting a dramatic exploration of relationships.
“Working for yourself is more rewarding than working for others”
Egide shared how he shifted from merely acting to producing his own content to achieve financial independence. “When you work for yourself, the rewards are greater. Although I started as an actor, I decided to produce my own projects to improve my financial stability,” he explained.
Egide entered the film industry in 2023 with the support of Miss Nyambo, who he connected with on Instagram. He has since featured in several popular Rwandan films and series, such as Ibanga Series, The Message, Houseboy, La vie ya Jojo, Besto, Amarira y’Umusirikare, My Neighbor, and Kwa Bijyiyobijya.
The actor-director expressed how cinema gave him both recognition and opportunities. “It’s easier to access services when people recognize you from movies. This is the life I now enjoy, and I couldn't imagine another career as rewarding as cinema,” he said.
The debut of 'Amahitamo' comes at a time when Rwanda's film industry is evolving rapidly. With an influx of talented actors and producers, modern technology is playing a pivotal role, enabling creators to distribute their work on digital platforms like YouTube and TikTok to reach global audiences.
“Although resources are limited, my passion for cinema drives me forward,” Egide said. “Even if it wasn’t for money, I would still choose this path. Cinema allows me to bring my vision to life in the same way Jackie Chan inspired my childhood dreams.”
Egide’s innovative approach highlights the potential of Rwanda’s budding film industry. His focus on self-reliance and strategic use of digital platforms sets a positive example for others, showing that with the right support, Rwanda's cinematic future is bright.
