Rwandan Footballers Abroad: Top Performances and League Standings

Rwandan football stars shined worldwide this week, showcasing skills across Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Tunisia, Belgium, and the USA.

In Egypt’s Premier League on Sunday, Al Masry, featuring Rwandan player Mugisha Bonheur, emphatically defeated Ismailia Electricity Club 4-0. While Mugisha didn’t play, he was listed as a substitute. Al Masry currently tops the table and is set to face Zamalek next Saturday.

On Friday, ES Sétif from Algeria’s first division and home to Biramahire Abeddy, drew 1-1 against JS Saoura. Representing Rwanda’s Amavubi team, Biramahire scored the only goal for his side via a penalty—proving instrumental again. ES Sétif holds 8th place in the league and will compete against El Bayadh on Thursday.

South Africa’s Premier League action on Saturday saw Kaizer Chiefs, starring Rwandan goalkeeper Ntwari Fiacre, edge past Golden Arrows 1-0. Though Ntwari didn’t start, he was named a substitute. Kaizer Chiefs currently rank second, with their next game against Sekhukhune United F.C. scheduled for the 16th of this month.

In Tunisia’s first division league, ES Zarzis, featuring Nshuti Innocent, secured a 1-1 draw against US Ben Guerdane last Thursday. Starting the match in fine form, Nshuti exited in the 75th minute. ES Zarzis leads the league standings and next plays Gabes on Thursday.

Belgium’s top league saw Standard de Liege, powered by Hakim Sahabo, narrowly lose 1-0 to Oud-Heverlee Leuven yesterday. Hakim was substituted in during the 75th minute. Standard de Liège ranks 9th in their league and faces Mechelen next Friday.

Meanwhile, in Belgium, Raal La Louvière, featuring Samuel Gueulette, suffered a 3-2 defeat to KV Mechelen on Saturday. Gueulette entered late, in the 90th minute. Raal La Louvière holds 14th place and will meet Club Brugge next Saturday.

In the United States second division, Rhode Island, featuring Jojea Kwizera, overcame Charleston Battery with a 1-0 win on Sunday. Jojea delivered a full-game performance. Rhode Island ranks 8th and plays Louisville City FC next Sunday.

Birmingham Legion FC, home to Phanuel Kavita, had an exciting 4-4 draw against Orange County SC yesterday in the USA’s second division. Kavita played the full 90 minutes without substitution. Currently, Birmingham Legion FC ranks 11th and is set to clash with FC Tulsa next Sunday.
