The communal tree-planting event unfolded on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Isovu Industrial Park in Huye District. This impactful initiative aimed to advance environmental conservation, bringing residents and film actors together in a heartwarming display of unity and mutual support.
Deputy Mayor of Huye District for Economic Development, Mr. Kamana André, addressed the event, emphasizing the value of collaboration. He noted, “When we come together like this, we support one another. The Umuganda program is uniquely Rwandan and also serves to save national resources.”
Highlighting the importance of the trees planted, Mr. Kamana underscored their various environmental and community benefits. He expressed gratitude to the Mashariki African Film Festival for hosting the event in Huye and conveyed his hopes for the continued success of Rwanda’s film industry.
“I commend the vision behind the Mashariki Film Festival for choosing Huye District and engaging us in such meaningful acts. We aspire for your exceptional talents to keep growing, lighting the way for younger generations to follow. The leadership of Huye District wholeheartedly thanks you,” he said.
Mr. Trésor Senga, Director of Mashariki African Film Festival, described the day as an extraordinary milestone. Addressing the youth of Huye, he encouraged them to emulate the accomplishments of the film actors by avoiding harmful behaviors such as drug abuse.
He remarked: “Today is a historic day brimming with joy for all of us. It marks the fourth year of our collaborative efforts to promote cinematic education. The achievements of these actors result from their determination to steer clear of destructive behaviors like drug abuse."
Additionally, Trésor elaborated on the motivation for awarding Rwanda’s film actors, explaining how these accolades aim to reinforce their commitment and growth. "The awards showcase our support for these talented individuals and urge them to sustain their progress. Years ago, Rwanda lacked locally produced films—we watched movies from Nigeria or Tanzania in foreign languages that many struggled to understand."
Reaffirming their dedication to uplift the community, Trésor pledged to provide health insurance to children in need through Mashariki. After the tree-planting session, subsequent activities were held at the University of Rwanda, Huye campus.
The university students embraced the presence of film personalities, engaging them in meaningful interactions. In another gesture of solidarity, the actors donated blood to critically ill patients at local hospitals.
Bringing the vibrant day to a close, the group reconvened at City Snack Resto Bar—a prominent venue in Huye—to mingle with fans and enjoy festive moments.
