The annual Rwanda Shima Imana event is set to return this year, uniting all denominations and religious communities across Rwanda. It is a profound moment for Christians and all Rwandans to honor and glorify God for the continued peace, security, and socio-economic development the country enjoys. This event also serves as a time to entrust Rwanda to God for His enduring blessings.
On Monday, August 18, 2025, the National Organizing Committee of Rwanda Shima Imana officially announced that the 2025 installment of the event would be celebrated nationwide. Scheduled to occur over the weekend from August 29 to August 31, it will involve participation from all Rwandan denominations and religious groups.
Rwanda Shima Imana, which takes place annually, has become a symbolic fixture on the national calendar. This gathering provides an opportunity to give collective thanks to God for His grace and His abundant blessings that continue to propel Rwanda forward.
Ambassador Prof. Charles Murigande, serving as the event’s National Coordinator, highlighted the significance of the 2025 celebration. He said, "Rwanda Shima Imana 2025 will focus on expressing gratitude to God for His divine hand in securing Rwanda's peace, bolstering its security, uplifting its livelihoods, and accelerating economic growth." Churches and religious congregations across Rwanda will combine efforts in prayer, worship, and testimony, acknowledging the strides made in fostering unity, peace, and development through effective governance.
Murigande emphasized, “Rwanda Shima Imana is not just about thanksgiving; it is also a time for the nation to reflect, come together in unity, and collectively worship. It’s a time for Rwandans to say, 'Thank You God' for Your blessings on our nation and Your guidance to our leaders as they strive to safeguard Rwanda and advance its economy."
He further added, “Let this occasion serve as a call to all Rwandans to remember that everything we achieve and everything we are stems from God’s grace.”
The organizing committee has extended its invitation to all religious groups, denominations, families, and individuals across the country, encouraging their active involvement and urging them to inspire others to join this nationwide thanksgiving event.
During the last Rwanda Shima Imana, held on September 29, 2024, at Amahoro Stadium, tens of thousands of Christians gathered for spirited worship, showcasing unwavering faith despite persistent rain. After a five-year break, the event has now been confirmed to be an annual celebration, as reported by Inyarwanda.
The closing event in 2024 brought together government officials, private sector representatives, individuals from various religious beliefs, and citizens from all walks of life. Together, they praised God for Rwanda's prevailing peace, security, and flourishing economic development, standing in stark contrast to the nation's history marked by the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The guest of honor was Dr. Edouard Ngirente, serving as the Prime Minister at the time.

Rwanda Shima Imana 2025 promises a unique celebration, taking place across diverse communities throughout the nation.
