Rwanda Primary School Exams 2025: A Milestone in Education

On Monday, June 30, 2025, nationwide final exams for primary schools will officially commence in Rwanda. According to a statement released by the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), 220,840 students are set to participate. This impressive number includes 120,635 girls and 100,205 boys.

Among the participants are 642 students with disabilities who will benefit from tailored assistance during the exams. NESA detailed various accommodations, including exam papers in Braille, large-print formats, specialized tools for writing and voice recording, additional scribes to assist candidates, and extra time—ensuring an inclusive environment where every student has equal chances to succeed.

The launch of the exams will be marked by official ceremonies across the country. The primary event will be led by the Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, at Groupe Scolaire Institut Filipo Simaldone in Nyarugenge District. At the same time, Irere Claudette, the State Secretary in MINEDUC, will oversee proceedings at EP Saint Ignace located in Gasabo District.

Furthermore, senior officials from education agencies will participate in the exam launch ceremonies in various regions. For instance, Dr. Nelson Mbarushimana, Director General of REB, will be at GS Rwamagana A in Rwamagana District, while Eng. Paul Umukunzi, Director of RTB, will make an appearance at EP Rubengera in Karongi District.

The national exams will cover five core subjects—Mathematics, Kinyarwanda, English, Science and Technology (SET), and General Studies and Religion. These subjects reflect the nation's dedication to cultivating a diverse and well-rounded educational system.
