Rwanda Prepares to Host 2025 UCI Road World Championships: A Historic Event in Africa

Rwanda is finalizing plans for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali, marking Africa's debut hosting. Expect road changes, school closures, and fan zones.

This announcement, released on Wednesday, confirms that Rwanda is in the final stages of preparations to host the prestigious 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali.

The statement reads: "The government of Rwanda is pleased to inform you that with less than 50 days remaining, preparations to host the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, which will take place in Kigali from September 21 to September 28, are well underway."

This event marks a significant milestone as the first-ever Cycling World Championships held in Africa. Kigali City is fully prepared to welcome elite international cyclists racing through the heart of the capital city, providing viewers with a unique, up-close experience.

The government announced that specific roads will be restricted at designated times during the championships to ensure the safety of athletes, event staff, and the general public. Detailed traffic plans will ensure streamlined movement throughout Kigali.

Additionally, measures such as the closure of all Kigali City schools during the championship dates were revealed. The statement clarifies: "All schools within Kigali City will be closed from September 21 to September 28, 2025. The Ministry of Education will work closely with school administrators and parents to ensure this plan runs smoothly."

The government urged employees in Kigali to work remotely or from alternative locations using digital tools during the championships. Essential workers in vital sectors will remain on-site, while private businesses with remote capabilities were encouraged to implement similar measures to minimize disruptions.

To maintain order and minimize inconvenience, designated roads for regular use during the event will be announced early. These will be clearly marked in collaboration with road safety authorities, ensuring unimpeded movement of people and goods throughout Kigali.

In its call for collective participation, the government emphasized the importance of contributions from citizens, residents, and visitors in ensuring the success of this landmark event.

For those eager to experience the excitement firsthand, fan zones will be established across Kigali. These specialized areas will allow residents and visitors to closely watch the cycling races while celebrating Rwanda's remarkable achievement in hosting this international championship.
