The Embassy, located in Budapest, Hungary, was officially inaugurated in 2024, becoming one of Rwanda’s 49 embassies around the globe.
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, led a delegation on a two-day visit to Hungary aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering cooperation.
This visit builds on previous engagements by Hungarian officials in Rwanda, including the 2023 visit by Hungary's President Katalin Novák and the 2021 trip by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, among others. These exchanges underline the growing partnership between the two countries.
During a press conference in Budapest, Nduhungirehe remarked on the solid relationship between Rwanda and Hungary, expressing optimism about its future growth. He emphasized: "Rwanda values its partnership with Hungary. We aim to elevate it further, particularly through increased private sector investments."
The embassy was officially opened in December 2023. In March 2024, Ambassador Marguerite Françoise Nyagahura presented her credentials to Hungary’s President, Tamás Sulyok, cementing her position as Rwanda's envoy to the country.
Hungary, on the other hand, represents its interests in Rwanda through its embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, and further solidified its presence by opening a diplomatic office in Kigali in August 2023.
