On Monday, Rwanda Military Academy in Gako, Bugesera district, hosted a grand graduation ceremony for 81 officers awarded advanced degrees. Distinguished guests included top RDF officials, security agency representatives, and government dignitaries such as Defense Minister Juvenal Marizamunda, RDF Chief of Defense Staff Gen Mubarakh Muganga, newly appointed RIB Secretary General Col Pacifique Kayigamba Kabanda, and Minister of Education Nsengimana Joseph.
The Academy’s Commander, Brig Gen Franco Rutagengwa, commended the graduates for their dedication and encouraged them to uphold moral and professional values throughout their careers.
He emphasized, "These young men and women have demonstrated exceptional skills in their studies. They possess knowledge both in general disciplines and in military science, and they are equipped to tackle societal challenges. We trust you will carry out your responsibilities with wisdom. The knowledge you have acquired is the foundation for building a strong military, fulfilling leadership roles, and protecting civilians."
Defense Minister Juvenal Marizamunda acknowledged the nation's trust in the graduates, urging them to maintain their determination and leadership in advancing Rwanda's development.
"As you leave here, the country has placed its trust in you," he stated. "As trained soldiers, remember that you are entering a changing world with challenges like cybercrime and climate change. The education you received has prepared you to confront these issues. A strong military is built on well-trained personnel equipped with the right tools. The future belongs to you—move forward with energy and focus, and continue contributing to national progress."
Two students stood out among the graduates: Dr. Eugene Parfait Ruhirwa, specializing in medicine, and Sous Lieutenant Christian Izere, excelling in military sciences and humanities. Both were recognized for their outstanding achievements.
The 81 honorees included 20 Lieutenants trained in Medicine and 61 Sous Lieutenants specializing in Military Sciences and Humanities, having completed their studies at the University of Rwanda by 2025.
Since 2015, the Military Academy in Gako has collaborated with the University of Rwanda, offering programs in Military Sciences, Humanities, Medicine, and Engineering Sciences. In 2020, additional programs such as Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Law, Nursing, and Mechanical Sciences were introduced, diversifying and enhancing the curriculum.
