Six years after launching a sports tournament for employees of various banks, the Rwanda Bankers’ Association (RBA) has announced that the sixth edition of the tournament will kick off on August 2, 2025, and conclude on September 6, 2025.
The tournament embraces the inspiring theme: "Healthy Bankers, Stronger Banking Industry." This highlights its mission to contribute to employees’ physical health while strengthening collaboration within the banking sector.
Encouraging Wellness and Team Building
RBA emphasizes that this sports competition is designed to promote stronger health among employees, boost teamwork, and enhance partnerships within the financial sector. Importantly, it also provides an opportunity for bank employees to socialize and share joyful moments outside the office environment while prioritizing their physical fitness.
Sports Venues and Competitions
The event features participation from nine banks operating in Rwanda. Highlights include four chosen sports disciplines:
- Football matches at Tapis Vert
- Basketball games at Lycée de Kigali
- Volleyball at Maison de Jeunes Kimisagara
- Swimming at Green Hills Academy
New Addition: Prize Money
For the first time, the tournament will award prize money to teams demonstrating exceptional performance. This marks a significant milestone in recognizing the importance of employee engagement in sports.
Building Connections Beyond Sports
In addition to the competitions, the tournament serves as a platform for networking and interaction among bank employees from different institutions. According to RBA, this is an excellent space for fostering stronger relationships and collaborative efforts across the banking industry.
Participating Teams and Numbers
The sports event boasts impressive participation statistics:
- Nine teams in football
- Five teams in basketball
- Three teams in volleyball
- Four men’s and three women’s teams in swimming
Notable Players Joining the Tournament
Adding star power to the event, former Rwanda league players are participating. These include Dusenge Berthin (Gicumbi FC), Kayumba Soteri (AS Kigali), Habyarimana Innocent (APR FC and Police FC), Habamahoro Vincent (Mukura VS), and Ntaribi Steven (Police FC, APR FC, and Musanze FC).
The participating banks have already drawn lots to finalize their group stages matchups.
One of the notable participants includes Dusenge Berthin, a former Gicumbi FC player, who now works as a bank employee.
