Rwanda Aims to Boost Early Childhood Education to 65% by 2029

Rwanda targets raising pre-primary enrollment from 45% to 65% in five years, focusing on strong strategies to improve education for sustainable growth.

This meeting brought together influential leaders from government institutions, private sector representatives, and educational stakeholders, focusing on critical challenges in the education sector and sustainable solutions to address them.

The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, highlighted the importance of deliberating on Rwanda's education system to lay a strong foundation for learning and growth.

He remarked, “This meeting evaluates the strategies we have to advance the education sector, as outlined in the National Education Plan for the next five years, while aligning with Rwanda's Vision 2050 for lasting development.”

Statistics from the Ministry of Education reveal that only 45% of Rwandan children currently enroll in pre-primary school before transitioning to primary education.

Minister Nsengimana emphasized, “Although progress has been made, it is not sufficient. That’s why we’ve set a new goal to increase pre-primary enrollment to 65% within the next five years. This will better prepare children entering primary school, enhancing their academic success.”
