As Rwanda prepares for the landmark 2025 World Cycling Championships, scheduled from September 21-28, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) General Assembly was held this Thursday at the iconic Kigali Convention Center.
The assembly, officially opened by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, focused on crucial elections for the UCI committee. These elections determine leadership for the next four years, lasting through to 2025. David Lappartient, who has successfully led the UCI since 2017, stood as the sole candidate for President and was reappointed unopposed, as outlined by UCI regulations.
After his re-election, Rwanda’s Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, extended her heartfelt congratulations. On X (formerly known as Twitter), she shared her message: "Congratulations David Lappartient on being re-elected as UCI President. We will continue to work together to develop cycling in Rwanda, Africa, and globally. Wishing you all the best."
David Lappartient, re-elected as UCI President, remains a pivotal figure in advancing global and African cycling initiatives.
