Ross Kana Exits 1:55 AM Label: Cites Broken Promises & Bruce Melodie Album Controversy

Rising Rwandan artist Ross Kana leaves 1:55 AM label, citing unfulfilled promises. Controversy unfolds over alleged RWF 10M Bruce Melodie album deal.

In a bold announcement on Saturday, May 2, 2025, rising Rwandan artist Ross Kana confirmed his immediate exit from the 1:55 AM. He revealed that the label failed to honor their agreements, which played a significant role in hindering his artistic growth and career aspirations.

"I am officially leaving 1:55 AM as of now because they did not fulfill the agreements we had. What we agreed on was not delivered, and that prevented me from achieving my expectations as an artist," Ross Kana stated in his announcement.

Expressing gratitude for the platform and support provided by the label, Ross Kana shared that he is now seeking fresh opportunities better aligned with his artistic vision. He also extended his best wishes to 1:55 AM for their future efforts in nurturing musical talent.

Ross Kana joined 1:55 AM on December 1, 2023, and quickly gained recognition after releasing his debut single, “Sesa,” on February 2, 2024. The song captured widespread attention as he positioned himself as a new artist to watch. Following this success, he released another single, “Mami.” However, the anticipated follow-up projects never materialized under the label.

His departure also sheds light on other controversies. On December 21, 2024, during the Kigali Universe event, Ross Kana generated buzz by announcing that he had purchased Bruce Melodie's album, “Colorful Generation,” for RWF 10 million. The statement was viewed as a generous endorsement of Bruce Melodie’s career and a testament to their camaraderie.

Ross Kana had this to say at the time: "He is like a big brother to me, so I feel obligated to support him." When questioned by host Lucky Nzeyimana about the source of the RWF 10 million payment—whether it was from his personal funds or provided by 1:55 AM—Ross Kana clarified that it was his own contribution.

However, this claim was later disputed. In a discussion with InyaRwanda, a representative of 1:55 AM dismissed the assertion, describing Ross Kana’s remarks as boastful.

"He did not pay RWF 10 million. It was just words and showing off. But such things happen in the industry," the representative stated, casting doubt on Ross Kana's claims.

Despite the controversies, Ross Kana and Bruce Melodie maintain a notable connection, often collaborating within Rwanda’s vibrant music scene.

Bruce Melodie, meanwhile, continues to reach new heights in his career. During the launch of the “Colorful Generation” album, he set a record as the first Rwandan artist to sell an album for RWF 26 million in a single night. This marked a groundbreaking achievement, as previous top album sales figures in the Rwandan music industry typically ranged between RWF 3 million and RWF 5 million.

The rising artist's claim about purchasing Bruce Melodie’s album for RWF 10 million has since been debunked, but his exit from 1:55 AM marks a pivotal moment in his career.
