Rayon Sports Women's Football Club was celebrated at Skol brewery in a vibrant event aimed at honoring their impressive performances and achievements. The memorable ceremony brought together players, management of the team, and leaders at Skol, a leading beverage company renowned for crafting high-quality alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
At the event, Rayon Sports WFC players proudly displayed four trophies they had won during the football season. These victories included the prestigious league championship trophy, a testament to their outstanding performances against formidable teams such as Inyemera, AS Kigali, and Police WFC, as confirmed by the team's head coach.
The coach remarked, “We faced intensely competitive opponents, with AS Kigali, Police, and Inyemera being major challenges in our journey to the title.”
Echoing these sentiments, the team's captain reflected on a challenging season, highlighting their regret at falling short in the Peace Cup finals despite tremendous efforts to clinch the title.
She stated, “Our final match against Indahangarwa in the Peace Cup was tough, and unfortunately, we dropped short of victory. Nevertheless, our mission is to strive for glory in every competition.”
The captain also expressed gratitude for Skol's ongoing support, stating how enthusiastic the players feel each time they're invited to showcase their season's achievements. She described Skol as a nurturing sponsor that ensures their needs are met, making every occasion memorable.
Madam Jeanine Uwimana, Rayon Sports Women Football Club’s operations head, applauded Skol for organizing such an appreciation event. She reassured the team's commitment to continued excellence while calling on Skol for more support as the team prepares to represent Rwanda internationally. Specifically, she advocated for high-quality training facilities and player wellness initiatives to ensure optimal performance.
Eric Gilson, General Manager of Skol, expressed admiration for Rayon Sports Women’s achievements and reaffirmed Skol's pledge to promote women’s football. Encouraging the team to keep performing excellently, he assured them of continued collaboration to empower women in sports. He added, “Our focus remains on supporting women's football. We wish you the best and are dedicated to advancing the game alongside you.”
In only two years since joining the top-tier league, Rayon Sports Women Football Club has made remarkable strides. With two league championship titles under their belt, the team has already represented Rwanda internationally and is currently preparing for the CAF Champions League for women.
As part of the celebrations, the team received a financial incentive of 8 million Rwandan Francs in recognition of their exemplary performances this season.
Skol executives were also recognized during the event and awarded medals for their unwavering dedication and support towards the team.
