On Sunday, the Rwanda women's football league wrapped up with thrilling matches, including a standout game where Rayon Sports Women's Football Club hosted Bugesera FC at Nzove.
The intense match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Rayon Sports WFC grabbing an early lead through goals by Jeannette Uwikunda and Diane Nyirandagijimana. However, Bugesera FC made a stunning comeback in the second half, netting two goals to equalize the game.
Rayon Sports WFC had already secured the league title back in March during their 20th game of the season. Despite two games remaining at the time, their points tally was unassailable, confirming them as the champions before the league officially concluded.
This marks the second consecutive league title for Rayon Sports Women, cementing their reputation as Rwanda’s women's football powerhouse. Remarkably, the team has achieved this feat within just three years of its establishment, amassing six trophies and setting a high standard for excellence in the sport.
Meanwhile, as the league concludes, Matunda WFC and Macuba WFC face relegation to the second division, demonstrating how competitive the league remains each season.
Rayon Sports WFC was officially awarded their championship trophy during the season’s final ceremonies, marking yet another milestone for the club.
The president of Rayon Sports, Twagirayezu Thaddée, proudly lifted the championship trophy during the jubilant celebrations, further cementing their dominance in Rwandan women's football.
