The controversy stems from a letter written to Thaddée on Tuesday, October 14, which was later made public this Wednesday. In the letter, Prosper Muhirwa, Vice President of Rayon Sports, strongly opposed the decision to suspend head coach Afhamia Lotfi and assistant coach Azzouz Lotfi. Muhirwa stated that the suspension was carried out unilaterally by the club President and lacked the approval of the executive committee.
In the letter, Muhirwa emphasized: “Based on the letters dated October 13, 2025, addressed to head coach Afhamia Lotfi and assistant coach Azzouz Lotfi, notifying them of their contract termination as coaches of Rayon Sports FC, I formally disassociate myself from this decision. I believe the decision was made solely by the President without the consent of the executive committee. As such, any negative consequences resulting from this decision should not reflect on the Rayon Sports Association.”
Earlier in the week, on Monday, Rayon Sports publicly announced the suspension of both Afhamia Lotfi and his assistant. The decision followed the team’s disappointing performance, characterized by a single win, one draw, and three losses in their last five matches.
Rayon Sports recently faced a challenging period, losing both legs to Singida Black Stars in the CAF Confederation Cup, suffering defeat to Police FC in the domestic league, drawing with Gasogi United, and securing their only win against Kiyovu Sports.
