The fourth matchday of the league saw Rayon Sports securing a commanding 3-1 win against Rutsiro FC on Saturday at 4:30 PM at Kigali Stadium.
The match started with Rayon Sports showcasing immediate dominance, scoring in the very first minute thanks to Tambwe Gloire. The goal, expertly assisted by a cross from Aziz Bassane, put the team ahead as the Rutsiro FC goalkeeper mishandled the ball.
Rutsiro FC responded swiftly in the 8th minute, equalizing through Emmanuel Nshimiyimana, nicknamed 'Kabange'. He strategically placed a pass backward in the penalty area, allowing Mbombele Jonas to unleash a powerful shot into the net.
For the next several minutes, the momentum reduced, with play focused mainly in the midfield. Despite this, Rayon Sports managed a chance through Musore Prince, but he failed to capitalize on a promising opportunity in front of the goal.
In the 42nd minute, Rayon Sports regained their lead with a goal by Bigirimana Abedi, who skillfully converted a cross from captain Serumogo Ally Omar. The halftime whistle blew with Rayon Sports leading 2-1.
The second half kicked off with substitutions, as Rayon Sports brought in Harerimana Abdulaziz for Habimana Yves. Rutsiro FC nearly equalized in the 49th minute through Mbombele Jonas, but the goal was ruled offside by the referee.
Later, Rayon Sports was awarded a penalty after a foul by Rutsiro FC goalkeeper Nzana Ebini on Aziz Bassane. Unfortunately for Rayon, Bigirimana Abedi's penalty was remarkably saved by Nzana.
The decisive moment came in the 90th minute when Aziz Bassane scored the third goal for Rayon Sports. A well-timed pass from Tambwe Gloire led to the brilliant strike, sealing the 3-1 victory.
With this win, Rayon Sports advanced to second place in the league rankings with 8 points, while Rutsiro FC fell to the bottom of the table.
In other league results, AS Kigali defeated Marine FC 1-0, AS Muhanga drew 1-1 with Etincelles FC, and Bugesera FC saw a goalless stalemate with Gasogi United.
The league action continues tomorrow with Police FC taking on Amagaju FC at 3 PM, and APR FC hosting Mukura VS at Kigali Pele Stadium at 4:30 PM.
