On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during an interview on Radio Rwanda's sports talk show "Urubuga rw'imikino," Rayon Sports President Thadée Twagirayezu tackled pressing matters, including the temporary suspension of Coach Afhamia Lotfi and ongoing FIFA sanctions. He revealed that crucial decisions surrounding the coach’s future would be made during a scheduled meeting.
"A month ago, we temporarily suspended him due to circumstances surrounding his contract. Today, we will assess his performance and our collaboration to determine if we will move forward together or part ways," Thadée explained.
"Today's meeting at 2 PM is specifically slated for evaluating his work and reviewing the results achieved since his suspension. We’ll have an in-depth discussion with him," he added.
Thadée underscored that the suspension was not synonymous with termination. "This one-month suspension didn’t signify dismissal; today, we’ll review everything," he clarified. He further highlighted that the coach’s contract allows for three months of salary compensation in case of separation.
Addressing FIFA's sanctions over former coach Robertinho’s complaint, Thadée assured fans that the club was making strides toward resolving the issue. "Today, the sanctions have been released. Just like in everyday challenges—solutions follow problems. We now need to pay Robertinho and Adulai Jalo to move forward."
With confidence, he added: "I want to reassure our loyal Rayon fans that there’s no need for panic. We aim to resolve Robertinho’s matter by December to ensure the smooth continuation of our projects in January."
Regarding the Coach Afhamia Lotfi situation, the club president emphasized ongoing consultations to guarantee a seamless resolution that wouldn't lead to legal or financial repercussions for the club.
When questioned about reports of a car purchase by Rayon Sports and accusations of dismissing board members, Thadée denied these as false. He stated that the car news caught him by surprise, as he saw it unveiled along with everyone else. He also debunked claims about veteran board members—dubbed "elders"—being fired from their leadership roles.
"If someone asks you to point out a rule or any situation that justifies firing someone, could you provide one?" he questioned. "Maybe, in certain scenarios, some might step away due to operational challenges, but there has been no official dismissal in Rayon Sports. Processes might not align perfectly with someone’s expectations, but that doesn’t mean anyone is fired."
These statements come against the backdrop of reports that some committee members, previously appointed, are no longer participating in team activities at the stadium—fueling speculation of internal disagreements within the management team.
