Nicolas Sebwato has established himself as one of the most consistent and skilled goalkeepers in Rwanda's Premier League, earning admiration for his standout performances.
At the prestigious Rwanda Premier League awards, Sebwato was honored as Goalkeeper of the Year and secured a spot in the Team of the Year—a testament to his exceptional abilities.
Recently linked with Rayon Sports, Sebwato confirmed the club's interest during an interview with InyaRwanda.
He said, “What I can say is that they want me to join their team.” Reflecting on his time at Mukura VS, Sebwato emphasized that it was a transformative period where he gained insights into Rwandan football and achieved significant milestones.
“The years I’ve spent at Mukura VS have been good for me personally because I’ve learned a lot about football in Rwanda and reached many goals,” he shared.
Sebwato lauded the competitive nature of football in Rwanda, which he believes drives players to improve their skills and deliver better performances.
“Football in Rwanda is competitive, which pushes players to work harder and helps them become better overall,” he remarked.
While his contract with Mukura VS has ended, Sebwato revealed that discussions regarding renewal are still ongoing, despite strong interest from Rayon Sports.
Addressing allegations of match-fixing that previously surfaced, Sebwato categorically denied them. He spoke candidly about the damaging effects of such actions on a player’s career.
“Let me address this issue of selling matches. If you are still an active professional player, never get involved in match-fixing because it destroys your career,” Sebwato stated firmly.
He added, “Anyone who pays you to lose intentionally will never sign you to their team or recommend you to others. Therefore, I encourage my fellow players to be content with what they receive from their teams. As for me, I would never do such a thing as selling matches.”
Throughout his time with Mukura VS, Sebwato confirmed that no one had ever approached him about fixing matches.
As negotiations unfold, Sebwato recognized Rayon Sports' interest in signing him, showcasing his expanding impact within Rwandan football.
