On Friday, October 17, 2025, Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye arrived in Rwanda for a significant three-day state visit aimed at bolstering diplomatic ties.

On Saturday, he visited the iconic Kigali Genocide Memorial, joined by senior Rwandan officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Olivier Nduhungirehe and Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement Dr. Bizimana Jean Damascène.

At the memorial site, President Faye solemnly honored the over one million victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, reflecting on the deeply harrowing episodes of brutality. As part of the visit, he received an in-depth briefing on how the genocide was systematically orchestrated and Rwanda’s inspiring journey of recovery and transformation over the past 31 years.

In addition to this tribute, President Faye engaged in closed-door discussions with Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame at Village Urugwiro. The two leaders focused on strengthening diplomatic bonds and advancing shared interests between their nations through meaningful dialogue.

During this visit, Rwanda and Senegal achieved several strategic agreements. The two nations signed deals removing visa requirements for both diplomats and regular citizens, aimed at simplifying travel and expediting mutual collaboration.

The agreements also emphasized cooperation in agriculture, livestock development, correctional services, and healthcare advancements, all of which align with their ambitious Vision 2025 goals.
