President Kagame's recent visit to Kazakhstan marked a milestone as Rwanda and Kazakhstan signed agreements promoting trade, technology, agriculture, and mining.

On May 28, 2025, President Paul Kagame commenced his official visit to Kazakhstan, where he was warmly welcomed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The meeting underscored the strengthening partnership between the two nations.

During their discussions, Rwanda and Kazakhstan finalized groundbreaking cooperation agreements aimed at advancing trade, technology, agriculture, and the mining sectors. The agreements signal a shared commitment to fostering growth and innovation.

President Kagame, addressing the press, expressed his optimism about the collaboration, calling Rwanda and Kazakhstan "strong partners" and emphasizing the shared vision for seizing bilateral opportunities. "We’ve had productive discussions that underscore the strength of the partnership between our nations. By building on this solid foundation, we aim to deepen ties across various key sectors," he remarked.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Kagame noted that both countries are keen to discover new opportunities in trade, agricultural development, and technological advancement. He added: "As demonstrated by the signed agreements, our nations are dedicated to creating mutual benefits through innovation-driven partnerships."

The President also focused on the transformative potential of the mining agreement, praising Kazakhstan’s expertise in the field. "This cooperation between Rwanda's mining entity and its Kazakhstani counterpart presents a valuable opportunity for Rwanda. Kazakhstan’s skill and knowledge in mining and mineral processing will undoubtedly help us grow as a global player in this sector," he said.

Innovation remained a major talking point. Kagame drew attention to Rwanda’s progress in vaccine production and Kazakhstan's similar initiatives, suggesting future collaboration. "We’re excited about investing in vaccine manufacturing, and Kazakhstan’s experience offers a great opportunity for joint innovation. Together, we can enhance healthcare solutions for our citizens," he stated.

President Kagame rounded off his visit by extending a warm invitation to President Tokayev to visit Rwanda. "It’s an honor to be here in Kazakhstan, and we look forward to reciprocating this welcome by hosting President Tokayev in Rwanda soon," he concluded.

Rwanda’s diplomatic relationship with Kazakhstan has steadily grown since 2016, when the African nation made its first formal representation in Kazakhstan.
