President Kagame Congratulates Senegal on Winning AFCON 2025

President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, who attended the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, has congratulated Senegal for winning the prestigious continental trophy.

The AFCON 2025 final was played on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Morocco, where Senegal defeated the host nation Morocco 1–0.

The decisive goal was scored in the 94th minute by Pape Gueye, following an assist from Idrissa Gana Gueye, sealing Senegal’s victory in a tightly contested match.

The match was attended by several dignitaries, including President Paul Kagame, who was accompanied by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports, Rwego Ngarambe, and the President of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA).

Through his official social media platforms, President Kagame praised Senegal for their well-deserved triumph and also commended Morocco for their performance and excellent organization of the tournament.

He wrote: “My sincere congratulations to the Lions of Teranga on their deserved AFCON victory — an inspiring win that reflects resilience, unity, and excellence. I also commend Morocco for their strong performance and for hosting a well-organized tournament with great hospitality.”

Senegal, a long-standing friend of Rwanda, secured their second Africa Cup of Nations title, having previously lifted the trophy in 2021.
