Papa Cyangwe's Album Launch Turns Chaotic Over Payment Disputes

Rwandan rapper Papa Cyangwe's album launch at Kigali Universe faced interruptions due to unpaid sound equipment fees, leaving the rapper frustrated and claiming unfair treatment.

The chaotic events unfolded overnight, spanning Saturday to Sunday, November 23, 2025. Reliable sources shared with InyaRwanda revealed that rapper Papa Cyangwe was allegedly detained at Kigali Universe following payment disputes over sound equipment crucial to his concert.

A source disclosed to InyaRwanda, “Bora Bora Sound had agreed with Papa Cyangwe to charge 2 million Rwandan Francs (Frw) for the sound equipment, with an upfront payment of 300,000 Frw required. Initially, Bora Bora Sound did not activate the equipment, agreeing to do so only after negotiations with Cyangwe.”

The source clarified further, “Kigali Universe wasn’t directly linked to the issues. After agreements, Bora Bora Sound reactivated the equipment to start the concert. Midway through the event, however, Peter, founder of Bora Bora Sound, arrived at the venue and disrupted Papa Cyangwe’s performance by unplugging the sound equipment. This occurred as he demanded payment, with Zeo Trap’s performance further disrupted due to unpaid dues.”

Reports highlight that delays in upfront payment led to repeated disruptions during the performances. After a second negotiation between Bora Bora Sound and Papa Cyangwe’s team, sound systems were temporarily restored.

Yet, when rapper Zeo Trap began his act, the equipment was unplugged a second time. Misled attendees initially thought the issues stemmed from power outages, although the root cause was failure to pay performance fees.

Papa Cyangwe reportedly remained at Kigali Universe from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., as confirmed by insider information reaching InyaRwanda.

Additional reports surfaced with claims that Joshua (also known as Jidena) had prepaid 800,000 Frw before Cyangwe’s performance, yet inexplicably faced further payment demands during the event, leaving him bewildered.

Expressing dissatisfaction over his treatment at Kigali Universe, Cyangwe stated he would never recommend local artists to consider performing there. He voiced his frustration, stating, “Imagine pouring money and effort into a show that attracts over 1,000 supporters, only to walk away without even a single hundred francs.”

Notably, hosting an event at Kigali Universe reportedly costs 3 million Frw. However, Papa Cyangwe accessed the venue without charge.
