Muvunyi Calls Rayon Sports General Assembly for August, Twagirayezu Pushes It to September

Rayon Sports delays its August 24 General Assembly to September to focus on international matches, legal reforms, and critical preparations, confirms President Twagirayezu Thaddée.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Supreme Council of Rayon Sports issued a notice, initiating preparations for the anticipated General Assembly.

The letter, addressed to the association’s president, built upon Article 14 of Rayon Sports Association’s founding laws. It reminded the leader to compile vital documents required for the General Assembly, scheduled for August 24, 2025.

Key documents requested include:

  • The activity report and financial report for 2024/2025
  • The annual budget and action plan for 2025/2026
  • The audit report for 2024/2025
  • The Conflict Resolution Committee's report for 2024/2025

This formal request was signed by the President of the Supreme Council, Muvunyi Paul, and Secretary, Murenzi Abdallah. They underscored the importance of delivering these documents to the council’s secretariat by August 17, 2025, to facilitate adequate preparation for the assembly.

Following this notice, Rayon Sports Association’s President, Twagirayezu Thaddée, outlined challenges potentially hindering the General Assembly’s planned timeline.

The first challenge arose from events tied to Rayon Week and Rayon Day, including an international friendly match featuring Yanga SC.

Next, additional international matches with AZAM FC and VIPERS SC, slated for August 19-26, 2025, demanded significant planning to properly host the visiting teams.

Lastly, ongoing legal reforms requested by the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) posed constraints. Twagirayezu elaborated: "Based on the letter from RGB dated June 19, 2025, we were instructed to prepare amendments to the founding laws of Rayon Sports Association. This necessitates extensive discussions with members prior to presenting the reforms to the General Assembly. The limited time available prevents us from conducting meaningful consultations and securing robust participation."

As a result, Twagirayezu Thaddée declared that the General Assembly initially planned for August 24, 2025, would be postponed to September 2025. The adjustment aims to ensure sufficient time for preparing critical reports, engaging all members in discussions regarding the necessary amendments, and creating a well-organized and impactful assembly.
