Blessed with undeniable talent, Mutagoma showcases his musical growth in his new song titled “Karame,” a powerful worship and praise track. The song blends energetic Afrobeat rhythms with a deep message of testimony and a call for people to embrace salvation.
Releasing a vibrant Afrobeat song for the first time—at a time when the genre dominates across Africa and globally—and collaborating with skilled producers marks a significant step that could elevate Mutagoma’s music to the international stage.
He makes it clear that he is not slowing down and encourages his fans to expect greater dedication and consistency as he intensifies his efforts in music.
“Ampamagaye nanjye mperako nditaba ‘Karame’, mpisemo kuyoboka, satani nta bubasha akimfiteho. Ndagukatiye, sigaho satani winyicira umutima, genda satani ndekera umutima, muri Yesu niho hari ubuzima. [Yesu] yampaye izina numva ndanyuzwe.” These are some of the lyrics from Mutagoma’s new song “Karame.”
Though highly gifted, Mutagoma has previously released music less frequently due to other professional commitments. Speaking to inyaRwanda about the inspiration behind “Karame,” he explained:
“One morning I woke up and reflected on how we often resist accepting salvation and surrendering to the Lord Jesus, yet every day we witness tangible testimonies of what Christ does for His people.”
He added that “Karame” is a personal testimony of his decision to fully commit to Jesus and turn away from Satan.
“Karame is a song in which I testify that I have chosen to follow Jesus Christ. Now I rejoice in the Lord Jesus, where Satan struggles to shoot his arrows.”
The song was produced by Producer Prince Kiiz, a respected figure in the Rwandan music industry. The video was directed by Shema, a talented production and music promotion expert who also manages Moriox Kids—gifted young dancers known for performing to various songs and collaborating with international artists.
Mutagoma is widely recognized for his calm, reflective worship songs that lead listeners into deep moments of praise. “Karame” is his first upbeat track. He explains that he uses music as a tool to glorify God and uplift the hearts of his audience. He is a member of Christian Worship Center Kanombe.
Although he began playing music during the Covid-19 period, his first official release came in 2022 and was well received by gospel music lovers. Since then, he has consistently released songs. To date, he has six songs available: “Umusaraba,” “Iziyerekana,” “Haratsinda Intwarane,” “Iryo Jwi,” “Isezerano” featuring Bosco Nshuti, and “Karame.”
Born in Eastern Rwanda, Mutagoma says his mission in music is to remind people of God’s love for the world and encourage them to pursue the Kingdom of Heaven above worldly pursuits.
“Most of the songs I write encourage people to seek the Kingdom of Heaven more than the things of this world,” he says. He adds that his dream is to see many people turn away from sin and receive salvation:
“My goal in music is to lead many to righteousness, fulfilling the mission we were given—to proclaim to the world that the year of the Lord’s favor came when His Son, Jesus Christ, came and died for us.”
Mutagoma, who is 30 years old, holds a degree in Marketing and later pursued short-term studies in Ophthalmology, specifically in Optical Dispensing. He currently works in this field at the University of Rwanda.
He also runs a business called “Reign Optical,” which sells prescription glasses approved by medical professionals and certified by the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB). The business operates at MIC in Kigali.
Looking ahead to the next five years, Mutagoma hopes to expand his calling and see the message in his music reach different countries. “I envision having a platform that helps people grow spiritually through worship and praise music,” he concludes.
