MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival Highlights: Ariel Wayz, Riderman, & King James Shine

Explore the highlights of MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival in Nyagatare as Ariel Wayz, Riderman, and King James capture the audience's hearts with stellar performances.

The MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival’s third day in Nyagatare District showcased astounding performances. Held in Rwanda's Eastern Province, this marks the festival’s second appearance in the area, drawing excitement from music lovers.

During Ariel Wayz’s captivating performance, fans energetically chanted, “Bring Juno!”—requesting Juno Kizigenza’s return to the stage. Unfazed, Ariel Wayz assured the concertgoers, saying, “Let’s enjoy ourselves first; we’ll see about that later.” She later explained, “Juno is tired.”

In a surprise moment, Riderman joined Ariel Wayz on stage during her rendition of “Depanage.” Their electrifying duet thrilled the audience, creating an unforgettable highlight. Riderman shared his joy, saying, “I always wanted to perform ‘Depanage’ live with Ariel Wayz, but previous circumstances didn’t allow us.”

He added, “During the Gicumbi show, hearing her rap solo made me regret arriving late. Tonight, I couldn’t resist—I grabbed the microphone and joined her on stage without her knowing. It was spontaneous, but performing together was truly special.”

As Ariel Wayz thanked Riderman post-duet, fans resumed cheering for Juno. However, she remained firm, proceeding with her setlist and confirming Juno’s absence due to exhaustion.

The subsequent performances featured Juno returning alongside Bulldog. King James followed with his set, gradually transitioning into his signature slower-paced songs.

Before performing “Ndagukumbuye,” King James teased the crowd with, “Let me first invite the lady I truly love—Ariel Wayz.” She then joined him on stage, and together they delivered a powerful rendition of the track from King James’s 2023 album “Ubushobozi.”

In a media interview, King James expressed his admiration for Ariel Wayz, calling her “a phenomenal artist with an exceptional voice.” He continued, “Her talent is undeniable, and I’m sure Rwandans are starting to see it. She’s doing remarkable work and has a promising future ahead.”

Looking ahead, the MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival will move to Ngoma District next weekend, marking its final stop in the Eastern Province. The festival will then journey to the Southern and Western regions, promising more excitement and stunning performances.
