Moses Turahirwa (Moshions) Faces Cannabis Possession Case

Famed Rwandan designer Moses Turahirwa, aka Moshions, faces court over cannabis charges. He admits use, denies larger possession, and seeks forgiveness.

On May 6, 2025, renowned Rwandan fashion designer Moses Turahirwa, widely recognized as Moshions, appeared before the Kicukiro Primary Court to answer charges of cannabis possession, consumption, and storage.

The stylist, who is known for his innovative designs and international acclaim, arrived at the court early in the morning. His hearing commenced at approximately 9:30 a.m. According to the prosecution, Moses faces allegations of possessing, using, and storing cannabis, which are crimes under Rwandan law.

In his defense, Moses admitted to consuming cannabis, revealing that he obtained it from Kenya. However, he firmly denied accusations of significant possession or intent to distribute, stating that he only carried five grams of cannabis from Kenya and that this amount was for personal use.

Detailing his arrest, the fashion icon stated that he was apprehended at midnight on March 12, 2025. He explained that he had woken up to loud noises and found several individuals outside his residence. After they forcefully entered, he willingly handed over two grams of cannabis that he had brought from Kenya.

However, the prosecution countered his testimony, asserting that Moses was actually arrested on March 14, 2025, following witness reports alleging his marijuana use and possession. They claim he was found with thirteen packets of cannabis, a figure Moses disputes, maintaining that he only had five grams in total.

During the court proceedings, Moses made an emotional plea for bail, expressing sincere regret and asking for forgiveness. He assured the court that he had already embarked on a serious journey to quit his marijuana use entirely. He shared that doctors had visited him during his detention, providing medical guidance and support for his recovery.

In a heartfelt statement, Moses vowed to stay accountable before God and society, promising never to use cannabis again. He appealed to the court for leniency, requesting that his sentence be suspended. He suggested regularly presenting updates and drug test results to demonstrate his commitment to quitting cannabis permanently. Additionally, he highlighted his dedication to working closely with medical professionals to sustain his recovery.

The designer also disclosed that he had contacted a U.S.-based physician for assistance with rehabilitation. He had already secured a ticket to travel to the United States to consult medical experts and complete a comprehensive recovery program aimed at fully overcoming his dependency on drugs.

Explaining the root of his struggles, Moses shared that he had been under medical supervision since February 2025. He attributed his initial turn to cannabis to depression, which he claimed was triggered by challenging court-imposed decisions and other personal issues. He expressed hope for understanding and a fresh chance to rebuild both his life and career.
