Miss Rwanda 2020 Nishimwe Naomie Shares Her Inspiring Journey of Faith, Resilience, and Triumph

Nishimwe Naomie, Miss Rwanda 2020, opens up about overcoming public scrutiny, embracing faith, and finding the strength to inspire others through challenges.

Miss Rwanda 2020, Nishimwe Naomie, captivated audiences at the “Girls Impact Gathering - Girls Rising for Family & Nation (Isaiah 61:3-4)” held on September 2, 2025. Supported by diverse participants, including Apostle Mignonne Kabera of Noble Family Church, the event highlighted stories of resilience, empowerment, and personal victories, particularly focusing on uplifting young women. Discussions reinforced the idea of emerging stronger despite societal dismissal and internal struggles.

Naomie shared her journey, which was marked by criticism surrounding her national exam results five years ago. As she announced her book, “Beyond A Crown,” detractors questioned her capability due to her academic performance. This period brought her significant emotional distress, which she had never previously spoken about until now. During her talk, Naomie said, “I’ve healed through faith and realized God was with me, giving me strength and a crown even in the midst of fierce competition.”

Her road to becoming Miss Rwanda 2020 was fueled by an unwavering belief in herself, deep prayer, and constant encouragement from loved ones. Narrating her experience, she said, “Entering the contest was a leap of faith. I wasn’t sure how it would end, but I trusted God’s will. I registered, competed, and emerged victorious from 2,000 hopefuls, crowned Miss Rwanda.”

Naomie reflected on the doubts she faced—self-questioning and fearing she might only achieve a runner-up position. But she believed fervently in prayer and fasting, seeking divine intervention. “I told God, ‘See my efforts; accept my prayer that I might be Miss Rwanda.’ And God fulfilled His promise, making me the champion.”

Challenges didn’t end there; when her exam results showed low scores, questions arose about her ability to use her platform to inspire others. “I doubted my ability to motivate people. This is the first time I’m addressing this publicly. With the pandemic halting tasks, I questioned my path and God’s plan for me,” she admitted.

Amid COVID-19 restrictions, Naomie fought harsh online criticism, with individuals mocking her crown and questioning its significance. “I couldn’t show results during lockdowns, yet people doubted me. Their words caused emotional turmoil, but I prayed for strength and clarity in those moments of despair.”

The support of her family helped pull her through. A pivotal moment came when she dreamed a person asked why God entrusted her to represent thousands of girls. This encouraged her to embrace her unique purpose, rediscovering her identity as someone meant to inspire others. Messages of appreciation flooded in, increasing her confidence. From then, Naomie vowed to rise against negativity and to transform her critics’ doubts into fuel for progress.

Using social media, Naomie asked followers if they regarded her as inspirational—urging others to find inner strength first before helping others. She reminded audiences, “No one can save you unless you first learn to save yourself.”

Naomie emotionally connected her story to the lyrics from a song by Israel Mbonyi: “Do not concern yourself with the opinions of others, because their love is fleeting. Pay attention to the name God calls you; He created you with purpose. Whenever discouraged, listen to this message—it uplifts.”

During the event, Apostle Mignonne Kabera reflected on modern challenges posed by technology and societal pressures, urging resilience. “There may be times when your efforts seem to go unnoticed, but every person follows their unique path. Trust that God will reveal His strength through you.”

She added, “True success lies beyond appearances. Recognize challenges, be patient, and persevere through difficult moments. When delays come, stay strong and pray; your moment to shine will arrive soon.” Sharing her humble beginnings, Apostle Mignonne revealed how selling mandazi and chapati laid a foundation for her later accomplishments, including ventures into real estate alongside preaching the gospel.”
