Mike Kayihura Breaks Silence on Three-Year Hiatus After Management Contract Hindered His Music Career

Rwandan artist Mike Kayihura reveals how a three-year management contract stalled his music career, including the removal of his EP "Zuba" from streaming platforms. He shares advice for artists and teases new music as he prepares for a comeback.

In a message posted on his X account (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Rwandan musician Mike Kayihura opened up about the challenges he faced after signing a management contract three years ago. The agreement prohibited him from producing music freely, leading to the removal of his EP, “Zuba,” from streaming platforms.

Reflecting on this period, Mike stated: “I haven’t released music for three years because of the contract I signed. I initially thought it would grow my career, but it ended up being a trap. It left me feeling frustrated, as I saw people lying and pulling me down. However, I’ve managed to escape from it. New songs are on the way. Thank you for standing by me.”

Sharing valuable lessons for other artists, he advised: “Not everyone you work with or discuss projects with genuinely wishes you well. Learn the crucial aspects of your journey; don’t limit yourself to the studio. Read extensively, be visible, and embrace failure—it’s the only path to learning and growth. I hope to talk more about this journey soon.”

Mike Kayihura elaborated further in an exclusive interview with InyaRwanda, revealing that the contract was initially intended to facilitate collaboration with a management team, whose name he declined to disclose. However, the relationship did not proceed as planned.

He explained: “This was a contract I signed three years ago, hoping we could work on several initiatives together. I don’t want to share all the details, but it stopped me from doing what I needed to do. I couldn’t release music, and even my EP was taken down. I am now working on getting it back.”

The artist added that signing the deal without legal representation was a significant mistake, but he remains optimistic that these issues are being resolved.

He reassured fans: “I’m preparing to share everything in detail soon. But what matters most now is that this chapter is over. I’m ready to bounce back. At the time I signed, I didn’t have a lawyer, but now I am focusing on setting everything right.”

Known for his prowess in R&B, Afro-Soul, and similar genres, Mike Kayihura has built a reputation for exceptional songwriting and vocal artistry, earning him loyal fans across the globe.

Although the contract disputes brought setbacks to his career, Mike now vows to make a strong comeback that fans can look forward to.
