Meddy’s Impactful Partnership with Choreographer Titi Brown: A Turning Point in His Dance Career

Discover how Meddy transformed choreographer Titi Brown's career by being the first artist to pay him generously, leaving a lasting legacy in Rwanda’s entertainment scene.

In an exclusive interview with InyaRwanda, Rwandan dancer Titi Brown shared how Meddy became the first artist to change his life by paying him a substantial amount for his work as a choreographer. This remarkable collaboration took place during the Kwita Izina concert in September 2019.

“He was the first person to pay me a lot of money. It was the first time I signed for 600,000 RWF,” Titi recounted during the interview, revealing how this experience was pivotal in his journey as a professional dancer.

Titi's passion for dancing originally stemmed from his admiration for a girl in the Drama Team. However, over time, his love for dance developed into a career, motivated by the need to support his large family.

While Titi has collaborated with several artists, working with Meddy remains unforgettable. Their first partnership involved choreographing routines for a song Meddy recorded with DJ Paulin, earning him 200,000 RWF.

During preparations for the Kwita Izina concert at BK Arena, which featured global icon Ne-Yo as the headliner, Meddy reached out to Titi Brown for stage choreography assistance. This proved to be another major milestone in his career.

Reflecting on their collaboration, Titi said, “He told me he was going to perform at the big event and asked me to meet him at Papyrus. We met, and he even gave me money for transportation. We discussed preparations, and he asked me to bring together 15 dancers.”

After sealing the agreement, Titi formed a skilled dance team and initiated extensive rehearsals for the event. Despite Meddy’s performance being cut short due to time constraints favoring Ne-Yo’s set, Titi emphasized how this partnership had an invaluable impact on his growth and career.

“Even though I had been in the industry for five years, I had never been paid such a significant amount of money. In some places where I performed, I would only receive 20,000 or 50,000 RWF,” Titi recalled, underscoring the unique opportunity Meddy gave him.

The collaboration didn’t end there. Titi later worked with Meddy during another major event at BK Arena, where Meddy performed alongside renowned Nigerian artist Patoranking.

As the interview concluded, Titi shared that while he has worked with multiple artists, Meddy remains the one who truly acknowledged the value of his talent by paying him in a way that set a new standard for his profession.
