Singer Marina unveiled deeply personal details about her turbulent four-year relationship, which left her emotionally scarred but also more determined to heal. In an exclusive interview with InyaRwanda, the singer candidly reflected on the experience that shaped her perspective on love and personal growth.
Marina revealed that, although she never publicly named the person involved, their relationship profoundly impacted her. "I truly loved him," she said. "It felt like the first time I had ever truly fallen in love since growing up."
However, despite her strong feelings, Marina admitted she was aware of the toxic behavior from the very beginning. "From day one, I noticed he was manipulative," she reflected. "But I don't know what made me stay. When I think about it now, it feels overwhelming."
Marina disclosed that her friends continuously advised her to leave him, but she struggled to act on their advice. "Every day, I would vow to get out of the relationship," she revealed. "But somehow, I never did. And before I realized it, four years had passed."
Her account of the relationship's decline highlighted the gravity of her emotional struggles. "It was worse than anyone could even imagine," Marina shared.
When Marina finally ended the relationship, she was left grappling with lingering emotional wounds that she described as "bad, beyond words." She explained that the experience made her fearful of falling in love again. "I left feeling broken," she said. "It was terrible, completely unexplainable."
Addressing rumors of physical abuse, Marina clarified, "There was no physical violence. No man has ever hit me. But what I went through was worse than physical abuse."
Reflecting on the man she loved, Marina openly admitted that he wasn't someone who brought pride into her life. "He lacked good character," she said. "He was a bad guy, yet I still loved him anyway."
Despite the emotional turmoil, Marina stayed with him for four years, even as her friends urged her to leave repeatedly. "Sometimes I would feel hopeful, telling myself, 'I've let him go,' only to reunite with him the next day," Marina said. "It reached a point where I felt completely overwhelmed."
Since ending the tumultuous relationship, Marina has shifted her focus to self-reflection and healing. She recently released her new song titled "Ndarahira" and took a break from romantic relationships. Marina said, "Love isn't my priority right now. At this moment, I'm focusing on myself and growth. When I'm finally ready for love, my dream partner will be someone with kindness, compassion, and faith in God."
Through these challenges, Marina has held onto her belief in true love. For now, she is dedicated to rebuilding her confidence and getting her life back on track.
