Starting this Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Rwandans and the world began the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. This also marks the beginning of the National Mourning Week and the 100 days of remembrance activities under #Kwibuka32.
In a message shared on X, Guterres paid tribute to the victims and honored the survivors, stating: “On the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda, we mourn the victims & pay tribute to the survivors.”
He further emphasized the importance of learning from history and protecting lives, adding: “We must learn from past failures & protect the living — by rejecting hatred, inflammatory rhetoric & incitement to violence.”
His message serves as a reminder to the global community of the responsibility to ensure that such atrocities never happen again, by standing firmly against hatred, division, and any form of incitement to violence.
