Kitoko, Urukerereza and Bwiza Set to Perform at the National Heroes Tribute Concert

Every year on February 1, Rwanda commemorates National Heroes Day, honoring men and women who played an extraordinary role in liberating, rebuilding, and safeguarding the nation’s core values.

In 2026, Rwanda will mark this day for the 32nd time, under the theme: “Heroism and Unity of Rwandans: Pillars of Sustainable Development.” This theme highlights the crucial role that heroism and unity continue to play in the country’s long-term development.

To give this day a meaningful and emotionally engaging dimension, a major cultural and musical concert has been scheduled to take place at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali) on February 1, 2026.

The concert will bring together artists and cultural troupes who will blend music, dance, and powerful messages that celebrate Rwanda’s history, unity, and the values embodied by the nation’s heroes.

According to information obtained by InyaRwanda, the highly anticipated performers include: Kitoko, one of Rwanda’s most internationally recognized artists, known for combining music with deep and reflective messages; Bwiza, a rising female star who continues to captivate audiences with emotionally rich songs and inspirational lyrics;

Indatirwabahizi Culture Troupe, a renowned troupe celebrated for traditional dance and music that explore Rwanda’s history and cultural heritage; Urukerereza, a pillar in the preservation and promotion of Rwandan culture, and Army Jazz Band, widely known for merging music with patriotic messages that promote love for the nation and its values.

This concert comes as part of the broader program of Heroes Month, which began on January 4, 2026. During this period, both traditional media and social media platforms will be used to publicize a wide range of activities planned throughout the month.

These activities include various sports events, the inauguration of development projects, cultural and musical performances, and educational initiatives aimed at helping Rwandans—especially the youth—better understand the meaning of heroism and its role in nation-building.

In Rwanda, national heroes are classified into different categories based on the level and impact of their actions. The highest category is Imanzi, reserved for heroes whose exceptional deeds demonstrate extraordinary sacrifice and set a supreme example of service to the nation.

This is followed by the category of Imena, which includes heroes recognized for outstanding acts of dedication and exemplary service that greatly benefited the country.

There is also the category of Ingenzi who made significant contributions through ideas or actions that became key pillars in the nation’s social and political life.

In a deeper sense, a hero is someone who faithfully pursues a noble cause and accomplishes an extraordinary act that benefits others.

Such a person acts with integrity, perseverance, and exceptional selflessness, refusing cowardice and remaining steadfast despite the hardships of the journey. This is the foundation of the heroism Rwanda seeks to instill in the daily lives of its citizens.

In this context, the concert at Camp Kigali is not only a moment of remembrance, gratitude, and tribute to the heroes, but also a platform to remind the public—through art—that heroism is not merely a story of the past. It is a living value that should characterize every Rwandan in everyday life.

As Rwanda continues its path of development, this concert and the other Heroes Month activities will serve as a powerful reminder that heroism and unity are not just words, but true pillars of national progress, which must be preserved and passed on to future generations.
