Famed Burundian artist Kidum, celebrated for timeless hits such as ‘Amosozi,’ is set to return to Kigali for a highly anticipated concert. The legendary musician last performed in the city on February 14, 2025, at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali) during a memorable Saint-Valentine celebration.
This Valentine’s Day event, organized by artist Babo in collaboration with Horn Entertainment, saw Kidum share the stage with renowned Rwandan artists like Alyn Sano and Ruti Joel, among others. Fans were thrilled with his electrifying performance, and anticipation for his return has been high ever since.
In an exclusive interview with InyaRwanda, Kidum revealed that he will perform again in Kigali on September 6, 2025, at Copenhagen in Kicukiro. He promised a magical night as the headliner, joined by his talented band comprising skilled vocalists and instrumentalists. “This will be a unique show that fans should not miss,” he said, further raising expectations for the event.
Kidum’s announcement comes hot on the heels of his release of the music video for his latest single, ‘Nta Bwoba.’ The song has been praised for its inspiring message and powerful lyrics.
While debuting ‘Nta Bwoba,’ Kidum shared his spiritual inspiration, quoting from “2 Timothy 1:7,” saying, “For God did not give us a spirit of fear or timidity, but a spirit of power, love, and self-control. It is not by strength, nor by power, but by the Holy Spirit of God.”
Although primarily known for love and motivational songs, Kidum mentioned his openness to gospel music in the future. “I believe that one day God will call me to serve Him fully through music,” he stated. He continued, “Whenever I’m creating music, whether for love or uplifting messages, gospel songs often come to me like a divine arrow from heaven. I believe God is always speaking to me.”
The artist expressed appreciation for the creative team behind ‘Nta Bwoba,’ including Joel Houghton, Bob Pro, Ello G, Sheila Kanja, Dieudonne Hamisi, and Kinyunda Saidi, who played crucial roles in producing the music video.
During his February 2025 concert, Kidum also offered insights into his longstanding career, attributing his success to dedication and maintaining high artistic standards. He emphasized the importance of authenticity in music, saying, “The secret is knowing your work and ensuring your ‘restaurant’ keeps clients coming. Cleanliness, excellent service, and quality are key. My work is clean – no vulgarity or inappropriate visuals.”
Kidum’s iconic repertoire includes beloved hits such as 'Amosozi y'urukundo,' 'Birakaze' (with Alpha Rwirangira), 'Kumushaha,' 'Haturudi Nyuma' (with Juliana), 'Mbwira' (with Marina), and 'Nitafanya' (with Lady Jaydee) – timeless classics across East Africa.
His remarkable discography features albums like ‘Yaramenje’ (2001), ‘Shamba’ (2003), ‘Ishano’ (2006), ‘Haturudi Nyuma’ (2010), and ‘Hali Na Mali’ (2012), which cemented him as a household name in East African music. Known for his love ballads and multi-language tracks, Kidum continues to touch hearts across the Great Lakes region.
At 50 years old, Kidum has lived in Kenya for many years but remains a proud ambassador of Burundian music. His lyrics, often sung in Kirundi and Kinyarwanda, resonate deeply with audiences, combining emotional depth and a masterful touch of romance. His exceptional career has brought regional music to the global stage.
Kidum is no stranger to Rwanda, having performed there countless times. Each appearance sees fans flood venues to celebrate his music, showcasing his enduring popularity.
Notably, he graced the Kigali Jazz Junction on February 24, 2023, during its ‘Lovers Edition’ at Camp Kigali – a much-awaited concert after a four-year break. The much-loved artist has now announced another magical night for Kigali residents and music lovers. His September 6, 2025 concert promises an extraordinary experience that further cements his legendary status.
