The highly-anticipated concert featuring legendary Ugandan musician Jose Chameleon is set to light up Kigali Universe tomorrow evening. During a media briefing, Chameleon emphasized the significance of his return to the Rwandan capital, highlighting three key objectives: celebrating life, commemorating his 47th birthday, and honoring African music.
To deliver an unforgettable experience, the star revealed he has brought along his band, promising a show filled with electrifying performances. This event marks his return to Rwanda after a long hiatus of eight years, and fans have eagerly awaited this moment.
Expressing his appreciation for Rwanda’s efforts to develop entertainment infrastructure, Chameleon remarked, “I want to express my gratitude to the Rwandan government for building incredible infrastructure like this.” The artist sees this progress as a vital boost for the creative industry.
Joining Chameleon on stage will be Rafiki, who surprised fans by announcing his participation in the concert. Rafiki expressed deep admiration for the musical giant, saying Chameleon is his “teacher” and describing the opportunity to perform with him as “an extraordinary luck because I’m his number one fan.”
Jose Chameleon also spoke about his favorite song, “Mama Mia,” which revolutionized his music career. He noted, “If I had to perform one song for the rest of my life, it would be ‘Mama Mia,’ as it opened countless doors for me and established my fame.”
Reflecting on his journey, Chameleon discussed the challenges of handling celebrity status and maintaining authenticity amid widespread recognition, calling this the toughest hurdle in his career.
Earlier in the day, Chameleon revisited Nyamirambo, a neighborhood of Kigali where he spent many years living. Praising the area’s transformation, he recalled, “During my time here, there was only one road—today, the development is stunning.”
During his visit, he mingled with locals, warmly engaging with the community and posing for photos. A memorable moment occurred when an elderly fan shared his dream of watching Chameleon perform live. Touched by the story, Chameleon gifted the man and his wife tickets to the concert, making their dream a reality.
